Kierra’s Story

“When my daughter entered elementary school, she started to ask questions and realize she was different from other children.”

This is what prompted Kierra’s mom to search for support groups who could relate to

Kierra and her “special heart”. It was hard for Kierra to understand why her classmates didn’t take medications as she did and didn’t relate to the things she would tell them. Her mom eventually found Beats and Rhythms and says it has absolutely had a positive impact on Kierra’s life.

In addition to meeting kids she could relate to through the program, Kierra has made lifelong friends at Camp and kept in contact with them long after leaving. Her mom says she and her best friend from Camp have kept in contact nearly every day. The two share stories about Camp, school, and any other important life events via text. Kierra’s friend recently shared that she would be undergoing heart surgery and her mom says the two have been comforting each other with words of encouragement ever since. Her mom specifically recalls a conversation between the two in which Kierra’s friend stated “I will have a scar under my armpit,” to which Kierra replied, “You will have one just like me.” Kierra is currently working on writing an encouraging letter to her friend to put in a Cardiac Care bag.

“This warms my heart to hear and I couldn’t be more happy to know other children are benefiting in the same way from this program,” says her mom.
